Agents, automations, intelligent assistants, new interaction models and tools capable of executing processes autonomously appeared repeatedly throughout the day.

Beyond the technological innovations, however, we have returned with some reflections on the AVE (which has not left us hanging, thankfully) that we believe will directly affect the way companies will manage their information in the coming years.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a functionality

For a long time, artificial intelligence has been presented as an additional functionality: a tool for writing texts, generating reports or answering questions.

The feeling we had at the ERP Summit is different because AI is starting to be considered as a cross-cutting layer capable of connecting information and action. It’s no longer just about getting an answer, but about launching processes, consulting different systems and executing tasks within the organization.

This evolution raises an important question: where should this intelligence live?

Two visions on the future of business systems

One of the ideas that has caught our attention the most is that the sector seems to be moving towards two different visions.

The first is that of enterprise software manufacturers. In this model, artificial intelligence is part of the ERP itself. Data, processes and agents coexist within a single ecosystem controlled by the manufacturer.

It’s a logical proposal. It makes implementation easier, simplifies security and allows for a more integrated experience.

The second vision is more open. Here, artificial intelligence does not belong to a specific application, but to the organization. Agents interact with several systems at the same time: ERP, CRM, e-commerce platforms, documentary tools, logistics systems or marketing applications.

In this scenario, ERP continues to be a fundamental piece, but it is no longer the sole center of gravity of information.

The two approaches will likely coexist for a long time. The question is which one will end up dominant in those companies that work with multiple tools and suppliers.

APIs become a strategic asset

At DeMomentSomTres we have a particular perspective on this debate. We do not develop ERP. Our day-to-day work consists of integrating them with other systems, automating processes, connecting data and eliminating duplicate information.

Therefore, one of the clearest conclusions we drew is that the quality of APIs and the integration capacity of systems will be increasingly decisive. No matter how advanced artificial intelligence agents are, they will need to access reliable information and execute actions on the different systems of the company.

Concepts such as MCP servers, present in several talks at the congress, point precisely in this direction: creating standardized mechanisms so that agents can interact with business applications in a controlled and secure way.

For companies, this means that the openness and connectivity of their systems will be as important as the functionalities they incorporate.

The challenge is not just technological

Despite the enthusiasm generated by artificial intelligence, many of the conversations also brought to the table less visible but equally important aspects: data quality, privacy, information governance and change management remain critical factors.

Agents can execute processes, but first it is necessary to define which processes exist. They can query data, but this data must be consistent. They can make decisions, but organizations must define the limits and supervision mechanisms.

In this sense, the transformation is not only technological. It is also organizational.

The next battle: who will rule the intelligence layer?

Perhaps the most interesting reflection we took away from Madrid is that the competition will not be solely between ERP manufacturers. The fundamental question is who will end up controlling the intelligence layer of organizations.

Manufacturers want to incorporate AI into their platforms. Large technology providers are pushing for increasingly cross-functional agents. At the same time, many companies will want to maintain a certain degree of independence and avoid having all of their business knowledge depend on a single ecosystem.

It is still too early to know which model will ultimately prevail. What seems clear is that the ability to orchestrate different systems, share information securely, and govern data flows will be an increasingly relevant factor.

A conclusion for companies

If there is any practical conclusion we can take away from the ERP Summit, it is that preparation for artificial intelligence does not start with agents.

Start with the data.

Start with well-defined processes.

It starts with systems capable of communicating with each other.

And it starts with a technological architecture that allows you to evolve without being trapped in a single platform.

Artificial intelligence is advancing very quickly. But its real value will continue to depend on the same question that has accompanied any digital transformation project for years: how well connected is your company’s information?

Reflections after the ERP Summit in Madrid on artificial intelligence, ERP, integrations, APIs and the challenges that companies face in their digital transformation.

[11,4586
4555,4552,4547
post-25817233","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog-marketing-wordpress-plugins","category-e","tag-ai-2","tag-ai","tag-erp
["GET
